Gunbrella : “Baby” boss guide
The Cult 45 is a mysterious group with some pretty disturbing ambitions. You’ll first encounter them in one of the game's early rescue missions, and the boss fight that follows that encounter will be the first real test of your Gunbrella skills. The good news is that the tactics used for this fight can be applied to the other Cult 45 boss fights throughout the game. But first, you’ll need to prepare.
Preparation
Although the merchant is a long way from the boss arena, it’s worth visiting him to purchase ammo and health upgrades before the fight. This early on in the game, those upgrades will be extremely helpful as you continue to master your Gunbrella skills. After visiting the merchant, make your way to the save point bench and save your progress before entering the boss arena to ensure you respawn with all your recently purchased upgrades if you die.
The Cult 45 Fight
When you enter the boss arena, you’ll be confronted by Cult 45 members, 2 of whom will attack you as you attempt to walk away. This is a challenging fight, especially this early in the game, since you’re outnumbered by enemies who can move and shoot just as quickly as you can. The real challenge of this fight, though, is making sure you finish it with as much of your health as possible, as you’ll need it for the main boss fight ahead.
The Best Offense is a Great Defense
You’ll want to focus on parrying during this fight, as it’s a low-risk, high-reward way to win. This will allow you to defend yourself while also turning the Cult 45’s attacks against them. You can win this fight without firing a single shot, but if you see a safe opening to fire back, take it, as it only takes a few hits to take these guys out.
Phase 1
After you take out the two Cult 45 members, you’ll be attacked by the real boss, a grotesque monster known as “Baby.” During phase 1, it’ll crawl on the floor and the ceiling of the arena. Keep your distance as it moves around, as it’ll do damage if it runs into you. When it crawls to the ground, it’ll begin performing an attack where it rams you with its head. This attack can be telegraphed, so anticipate its windup to perform a successful parry.
Parry, Attack, Rinse and Repeat
After you land a successful parry, “Baby” will quickly bounce back and try to ram into you again. To counter this, follow the parry with a shot to its head for maximum damage. Once you do this a few times, you’ll start to pick up the rhythm of these attacks, and they’ll become easier to handle. When Baby crawls onto the ceiling, you’ll need to carefully and accurately jump to an area where you can land a shot while avoiding getting hit. It’s easy to get greedy with this method, so be careful when going for these shots. Rinse and repeat these tactics until phase 2.
Phase 2
After you drop Baby’s health to below 50 percent, they’ll become more erratic, using more aggressive attacks. It’ll crawl around the arena until it chooses a spot to plant itself and start swinging its head violently from side to side like a see-saw. During this attack, you can either keep your distance by staying outside of the area where its head is bashing, or you can stay underneath it to remain close.
Regardless of the method you choose to use here, wait until it finishes its attack and go in for a few hits to its head. You’ll have a few seconds to do so before it begins the attack again. Remember to keep your distance and telegraph its attacks until you take it down for good.
