m.o.b.g. has leveled up - quick take #3
When I started MylesOfBacon Games in 2023, I did so with a desire to create an outlet for myself to discuss the games I love. What started as me simply recapping my experiences evolved into writing traditional long-form reviews where the main focus was to offer critiques for the games I was playing. Shortly after, I decided to add another element to the formula, something that would complement my reviews, helping to deliver a more well-rounded offering. Thus, the M.O.B.G. Quick Take was born -- casual discussions about the industry boasting a more laid-back and informal style to its content. But lately, I've begun to feel that my approach to reviewing games hasn't been matching the deep level of enthusiasm I feel towards them. I've decided to dig deeper; to spend more time with the games I love the most so that I can curate thoughtful and meaningful discussions about them. To achieve that goal, I've overhauled the MylesOfBacon Games experience!
Firstly, Bacon Game Reviews have been replaced with DEEP DIVES. These are long-form blog-style discussions about video games, providing deep analysis of their narrative, technical, and mechanical components. DEEP DIVES are all about quality over quantity, and are designed to provide thought-provoking discussions about the games I love the most. What about all of my previous reviews? Are they just going to vanish into thin air? Nope! All previous Bacon Game reviews are now available in the "Archived Content" section of the website, available for your reading pleasure at any time. It'll be a short while before DEEP DIVE #1 is published, but don't worry! I'll have plenty of other content for you to dive into in the meantime.
Between cooking up DEEP DIVES, I'll be publishing a regular rotation of content through an exciting suite of offerings -- starting with Quick Takes. Up until now, Quick Takes content consisted of casual discussions about industry topics and regular game updates. Now, this offering has been reworked! Going forward, Quick Takes will now be the home for casual, short-form game reviews. This is meant to fill the time gap created by DEEP DIVES, which will take longer to complete. In short, if I like a game enough to want to talk about it, but don’t deem it as the right fit for a DEEP DIVE, then I'll give my "quick take" on it instead. Quick Takes will also continue to feature industry topics, which I hope to see an increase in going forward. As for game updates? Those have been reworked, too!
New to M.O.B.G. is a page dedicated to gaming updates -- ongoing check-ins for the games I play over long periods of time. Right now, as you might have seen, I've been providing regular monthly updates for my Animal Crossing Island. But pretty soon, more games will be added to this list, so stay tuned! Last but certainly not least, I'm reviving a long-dormant section of the M.O.B.G. site -- the Games Gallery! When I write a review, the majority of the screenshots I take for that review never make it into the final published piece. Going forward, I'll be adding those images, as well as a handful of images from DEEP DIVES and Quick Takes to the Games Gallery for your viewing pleasure.
At the end of the day, M.O.B.G. is about celebrating games, and the changes that I've outlined in this article are designed from the ground up to do just that. Most of all, I'm excited to go on this journey of celebration with all of you! Be sure to check the website as well as all of the M.O.B.G. social accounts for updates related to DEEP DIVES, Quick Takes, Gaming Updates, and the Games Gallery!
